Dr. Elaine Icban an attending optometrist at New England College of Optometry (NECO) Center for Eye Care Roslindale. She is also a clinical assistant professor for the New England College of Optometry. She has been on faculty for the college since 2008, working with optometry students at various community health centers, including the Pine Street Inn (affiliated with Boston Health Care for the Homeless), North End Waterfront Health, Spaulding Nursing and Therapy Center in the North End, and New England Eye Roslindale.
Dr. Icban is originally from the west coast, having graduated from the University of California Davis and the University of California Berkeley Optometry School. After optometry school, she worked for Sterling Vision in Northern California for a year and then joined a private practice in Hilo, on the big island of Hawaii. She enjoyed her stay on the islands, but, having always had the desire to do a residency, decided on a change of scenery and began her residency with the VA Boston Health Care System. She completed her residency in primary care and ocular disease at the VA hospital in West Roxbury in 2008. After residency, Dr. Icban began her current position with the college as clinical instructor.
Dr. Icban is also a practicing musician who plays the clarinet and piano. She has been involved in community band organizations in the Boston area including the Brookline Community Band and the Eliot Clarinets.
